Other Mesozoic Creatures
This page gives you an example of a flying reptile and an example of a reptile that lived in the ocean during the time of the dinosaurs. There was also fish back then.
Plesiosaurus
Plesiosaurus was about 4.5 metres long with a wide, flat body and short tail. It swam by flapping its fins, almost like trying to fly underwater. Its nostrils were far back on its head near its eyes. It had a long neck that is believed to have been used for eating by swinging its head back and forth through schools of fish, catching them in its jaws and eating them with its sharp teeth.
Pteranodon
Pteranodons had a wingspan of 7 metres and had a toothless beak, almost like a pelican's. They had crest on the back of their head that could have possibly been used to recognise the species. The crest on a male is noticeably larger than the crest on a female. Compared to its wings, its body was rather small, but its legs were large compared to the body. The leg bones were hollow, and the outside was only about 1 millimetre thick. The shape of the bones though, were aerodynamic. They were strong fliers with a large chest. They were a display of power and strength as well as manoeuvrability. Their size prevented them from flapping easily, so it was more likely that they soared. It had large eyes which has led to the assumption that its eyesight was heavily relied on as it searched for food.
